Train Your Existing Employees

Investing in your employees is one of the best ways to keep your competitive edge. If your business is facing challenges that could be addressed by offering your employees a chance to learn new skills, then the Incumbent Worker Training Program could be a great fit.

This grant provides matching funds for employers to lower the financial burden of worker training. The funds can be used to pay costs associated with training include. tuition or instructional fees, textbooks, certification and licensing fees.

Participating businesses must provide a minimum matching contribution to the grant funding. The percentage is determined by the size of your business. Wages paid during training can be counted toward the match requirement.

  • Businesses with 50 or less employees must match 10% of training costs
  • Businesses with 51-100 employees must match 25% of the training cost
  • Businesses with 100 or more employees must match 50% of the training cost.

Provide On-The-Job Training

Are you considering an employee candidate with excellent potential who lacks the training necessary to begin right away? Our On-the-Job Training (OJT) program can help you bridge the gap. This subsidy program supports up to 50% of a new worker’s wages for 3-5 months up to a maximum of $5,000 while they become fully proficient in their job.

  • 3-5 month wage subsidy during training period up to $5,000.
  • Employers retain workers in permanent employment following training.
  • New employees must qualify for OJT training prior to employment.

Building a well-trained workforce and offset the financial cost of lost time and productivity as new employees learn.

Offer Work Experience

Temporarily fill needed roles, interview promising candidates, and offer valuable work experience at no cost to your business. Work experience participants receive incentives directly through Greater Roanoke Workforce Development Board and can provide up to 300 hours of work.

This program helps businesses manage hiring risks, save money, and audition promising candidates. At the same time job seekers build important work experience, skills, and connections. It all works together to build a robust workforce for the region.
